Creating Energy Careers is our initiative in partnership with the high schools in Fort St. John, designed to highlight exciting career opportunities in the trades. We spearheaded this program and have been a driving force behind its success. Now in our third year, we’re proud to have the largest number of participants to date.
Unlike other programs, we created a hands-on experience that fully immerses students in the trades. Participants earn essential safety certifications like First Aid and H2S before spending four days working directly with local businesses, gaining real-world experience as if they were starting their careers. This approach goes beyond facility tours—it gives students a true grasp of being in the workforce. They also receive course credit, serving as a valuable bridge to the Dual Credit program. We’ve seen graduates from this initiative get hired by employers or pursue careers in the trades. If this opportunity excites you, or you would like to get involved, let us know.
As a Welding apprentice, you will refine your precision, coordination, and technical skills, mastering specialized welding techniques and working with various metals to meet industry standards. You’ll develop problem-solving abilities and collaborate on complex projects, gaining the confidence to succeed in high-demand welding roles.
As a Steamfitter/Pipefitter apprentice, you will learn to design, assemble, install, and maintain high-pressure piping systems, using your math skills and adaptability to troubleshoot and repair complex infrastructure. You’ll also master techniques like heating and bending pipes at high temperatures, ensuring proper efficiency and system integrity.
Whether you’re starting your career or looking to enhance your skills, our apprenticeship program offers comprehensive training and Red Seal certification pathways, helping you build a rewarding career in the trades. Join us and take the next step toward becoming a highly skilled tradesperson.
Northern Opportunities is a collaborative initiative designed to help students in Northeast B.C. transition seamlessly from high school to post-secondary education and careers. This partnership between three school districts (Peace River South, Peace River North, and Fort Nelson), Chalo School (Fort Nelson First Nation), and Northern Lights College provides students with dual-credit opportunities, allowing them to earn both high school and post-secondary credits. By integrating education with real-world work experience, the program supports career planning and workforce readiness while strengthening local industries.
Rumble is an active member of Northern Opportunities, with Thea serving as a co-chair. The board’s purpose is to bridge industry and education, ensuring students have clear career pathways. It advises school boards and colleges on curriculum development and identifies areas where the community can be strengthened, whether in healthcare, education, or social programs. Rumble’s commitment to workforce development is reflected in initiatives like Creating Energy Careers, which was born from its involvement with Northern Opportunities. The program has played a key role in developing dual-credit opportunities in the Peace region, allowing students to gain valuable certifications and real-world experience. By fostering collaboration, reducing barriers, and refining educational pathways, Northern Opportunities—and Rumble’s role within it—continues to expand career opportunities and strengthen the local workforce. If this opportunity excites you, or you would like to get involved, let us know.

This year we hosted the UNBC Active Minds Coding Camp.
